 Spoopy Yoohoo 7 (8)

Spoopy Yoohoo: SPZ

Saturday April 12th 2019 - 12 PM EST

Ed’s Nazi Castle - Ronkonkoma

Leading up to the event:

Spoopy Yoohoo: SPZ is probably the most postponed event we’ve had to date. Due to various scheduling conflicts and delays, it just took so long for it to happen. It took so long in fact, it was decided that Spoopy Yoohoo 80s would be hosted before SPZ.

This event started as a Dragon Ball Z themed event call Spoopy Yoohoo Z, that was teased at the end of Spoopy Yoohoo 6: A Game of Cucks. (I actually finished rendering this teaser about 5 mins before the first person arrived for Spoop 6.)

The first real teaser after this was a partial recreation of the classic Dragon Ball opening. It was posted right after creating the Facebook event page. (You can read more about that down below.)

First version of the teaser. Partially in 16:9. Spacing was off. Later converted to 4:3 to match the original footage. Background was a prerendered ocean I found. Matched perfectly.

4:3 version without any filters.

4:3 version with filters applied. This is the version posted.

Final Logo - Text Only

Some of the unique stacks we enjoyed during the event. Rice crackers, shrimp fries, squid, sea urchin. It was great. I remember Jake commenting his shit smelled horrendous for a few days afterwards.

This Dragon part I actually lifted from DeviantArt. A guy redrew the whole thing beautifully. Bless him.

Second teaser for this event. Partially recreated the opening for the original Dragon Ball.

Title again with different spacing and no Kanji. Original video was in 16:9 and resized to 4:3 to match the original footage

Text only - Made the text from scratch. Was not a font I downloaded. Made each letter individually.

First logo for the event. Original title was Spoopy Yoohoo Z. Used this title only for the intial teaser and the fake event that was coincidentally scheduled for Mitch’s wedding day.

Cover photo for Spoopy Yoohoo Z, the original name of the event. Things were later changed an moved around. This is really the only other “official” use of the DBZ style logo other than the teaser I showed at the end of Spoopy Yoohoo 6: A Game Of Cucks. I later “scheduled” this Spoopy Yoohoo for a day that just happened to be Mitch’s wedding day. Shame how that happened.

The infamous Photoshop with me in Vegeta cosplay

The original shot. Had to chroma key out the green, remove the grain, brighten some parts.

I did multiple poses in the costume. Oh yeah, it’s super uncomfortable. Didn’t have a script or anything. Just did some poses I remember from the episode where Goku first meets Vegeta.

Photoshop I did for Avi around the same time. Forgot what it was for but figured I include it.

Every few days I posted a new teaser of the logo getting more digitized. Already settled on doing Spoopy Yoohoo 80s before this, but had to find a way to weave it in.

Last teaser before fully switching to Spoopy Yoohoo 80s. This Dragon Ball style wouldn’t appear again until the Spoopy Yoohoo X video.

Had to make each letter. Did S, P, O, Y, H. Used the original logo to compare.

The first Y. Each letter was made individually and “assembled” into the logo. I had to align everything and overlap them like the original. That took a long time.

Luckily a few letters were used multiple times. So I just copied and recolored what I needed.

The DBZ logo didn’t have any O’s. So I had no idea what to do. Decided to make them Dragon Balls. Debated on whether they should be in the foreground or background. Played around a bit.

The H was deceptively difficult to make. It’s actually a 3D model. I couldn’t get it to look right any other way. If you look at the text long enough, you’ll notice it.

Settled on the foreground. What balls were where was random, but I tried to put a low star ball with a higher one. I thought that was more aesthetically pleasing.

I made all of the dragon balls individually for the first logo. Made the ball first, applied filters and a border. Added the stars.

Here are the 1, 3 and 7 star balls. I didn’t end up using all of them. Still have the files, though.

I couldn’t get the 1 star to center properly, so I never used it. It may look fine, but it was a nightmare. Trust me.

Early teaser made for the event. Original concept was we had to “defeat” Broly. I was going to recut the Broly movie and insert jaw surgery Berni as Broly. But it took hours and hours to motion track a couple seconds, so I abandoned the Broly concept and went with more general DBZ thing. Even then, the DBZ aspect was replace with just anime in general, specifically Overlord.

This is it after some tweaks, but before I applied the background. Still needed some color correction to get rid of reflections from the green screen.

This one was used in my recreation of ITS OVER 9000!!!

Did multiple shots of this pose from different angles. Didn’t know how’d it turn out. I also couldn’t see myself on the camera, so zero idea if I was in frame or not.

Another shot, same pose. I look like I took a massive fucking dump.

This is a screen test I did before I put the suit on. Wanted to get the lighting right and make sure I could actually chroma key out the green.

Yes. I was naked.
